Introduction
This diploma will introduce you to core macro and microeconomic concepts and theories and you'll learn how economics helps your understanding of real-world issues such as government policy, international trade, business decisions, work and innovation. As you discover how economics and economies have evolved over time, you’ll gain a critical perspective on the economic choices affecting our daily lives and learn methods and techniques applied by economists in their daily jobs. You'll also gain valuable analytical skills, including applied data analysis, which are valuable to many employers.

A nationally recognised qualification in its own right, this diploma of higher education is also equivalent to the first two-thirds of the BA (Honours) Economics (R30).

- studying a mixture of printed and online material. Online learning resources may include websites, audio/video media clips, and interactive activities such as online quizzes.
- face-to-face tutorials/day schools/workshops and/or online tutorials
- using mathematical and scientific expressions, notations and associated techniques
- working in a group with other students
- using and/or producing diagrams and/or screenshots
- using specialist software (for example to analyse economic data)
- finding external/third party material online
- using technology for research purposes involving access to catalogues and databases online
- continuous and end-of-module assessment in the form of essays, short answer questions, and in some cases an examination
- using feedback: continuous assessment involves receiving detailed feedback on your work from your tutor and using this feedback to improve your performance
- engagement with learning and assessment within a pre-determined schedule or timetable – time management will be needed during your studies and the University will help you to develop these skills throughout your diploma.

Course details
This diploma has two stages, each comprising 120 credits.
- Stage 1 will give you the necessary grounding in economics, personal finance, statistics and mathematics.
- Next at Stage 2, you'll cover the core theories and methods in economics and applied statistics.
