Introduction
UNC’s Gillings School of Global Public Health — ranked the No. 1 public school of public health and No. 2 overall by U.S. News & World Report (2019) — offers an online Master of Public Health program, MPH@UNC.
MPH@UNC is the online Master of Public Health program from the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health, ranked the No. 1 public school of public health and No. 2 overall by U.S. News & World Report. With an interdisciplinary curriculum designed by faculty and students, MPH@UNC prepares working professionals to combat local and global public health threats, from emergent crises to systemic challenges. In the classroom and the real world, we emphasize practical, evidence-based solutions that promote individual well-being, eliminate inequities, and improve public health.
Our online learning experience — which includes customized field placement support — brings students face-to-face with award-winning faculty and accomplished peers, and equips them with the expertise they need to make a tangible difference on behalf of their communities. We also offer three CEPH-accredited concentrations: MPH Leadership, MPH Nutrition, and MPH Registered Dietitian (MPH/RD). Upon graduation, students join more than 19,000 alumni who are working on the front lines of public health in more than 190 countries around the world. Program Outcome
Specializations
The MPH Leadership concentration, designed for current and aspiring public health professionals alike, prepares students to lead teams, projects, organizations, and systems in pursuit of better health outcomes. Through a curriculum that emphasizes design-thinking and system-thinking skills, students will learn how to critically evaluate challenges, mobilize diverse teams and accomplish large-scale change.
The MPH Nutrition concentration prepares students to provide, evaluate and communicate nutritional and dietary guidance that improves individual and population-wide health outcomes. In addition to developing their knowledge of nutrition science, students will explore behavior change, communication, counseling, and the effects of dietary culture on individuals and communities.
The MPH Registered Dietitian (MPH/RD) program prepares students to meet the course and field requirements necessary to sit for the Commission on Dietetic Registration exam. In addition to completing our rigorous curriculum — which integrates the study of nutrition, dietetics, and public health — students will work with our placement services team to accrue 1,000 field experience hours in a variety of health settings.
